The final event of China Guardian 2014 begins with its preview from December 17 to 19. Nearly 3,000 lots in five categories, “Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy”, "Contemporary and Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy”, "Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy”, "Porcelain” and “Jade and Works of Art” will go under the hammer at the Beijing International Hotel Convention Center on December 20 and 21.

More than 1,400 exquisite works will be presented in three sections according to date. The presentation is a combination of academic and entertainment interest, the consistent style of China Guardian.

 

Modern Painting and Calligraphy

 

This is one of the most anticipated sections, with nearly 800 items. The collection is diversified in terms of themes, styles and taste. Pieces by a number of prestigious artists including Qi Baishi, Li Keyan, Huang Binhong, Lu Yanshao and Zhang Daqian will offer a feast for the eyes.

A highlight will be a special segment of private collections. Pieces of high collection value will be presented, including Huang Yongyu’s Plum and Huang Zhou’s Character. Plum demonstrates the true beauty of the plum and delicately explores the aesthetic implication of national spirit attached into it. Character vividly reveals the passion and enthusiasm of two minority ethnic dancers, bringing the characters to life.

Contemporary Painting and Calligraphy

 

With a selection principle of “accurate, exquisite, creative”, a wave of new force of contemporary ink painting is promoted. Senior, middle-aged and young painters will be featured in the section of contemporary painting and calligraphy. Lu Chen, Zhou Sicong, Zhang Ding, Yang Yanwen, Xu Xi, Shi Hu, Wang Mingming, Long Rui, Jiang Hongwei, Xue Liang, Peng Xiancheng, Yu Shui and other well-known painters will be featured.

 

Liu Baochun’s Landscape, a classic work that reveals the magnificence of Mount Taishan; Jiang Hongwei’s Lotus, an exquisite piece creating a peaceful and tender artistic moment; Yu Shui’s Character, a delicate work capturing ancient ladies wandering in the garden…all are must sees.

Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy

 

The collection standard for ancient Chinese art classics is “rareness, delicacy, scarce”. The scarcity and difficulty to identify them make those ancient classical works very popular among collectors.

 

Calligraphy by Jiang Chenying (1628-1699), is a precious collection of famous collector and connoisseur Qi Shuyu, and gives audiences a bright and brief look at its unique and fluent writing style and beautiful fonts. Calligraphy by Wen Zhengming (1470-1559) presents a splendid, powerful and straightforward writing style with a strong sense of history. Those classics will bring the auction to a climax.

Porcelain

 

More than 1,400 porcelain items are to be auctioned and the section is divided into two categories: “Porcelain” and “Jade handicraft”.

 

Chinaware of Ming and Qing dynasties

 

More than 500 china items will be at auction and imperial porcelain works will be a highlight.

 

Imperial porcelain is always popular and highly valued. One of the representative works is a pair of blue glazed dishes of the Yongzheng (1678-1735) period of the Qing Dynasty regarded as the top collection of the auction. The glazing color is fresh yet elegant, which perfectly matches the season of winter. Moreover, “a fine blue and white jar” from the Ming dynasty is also worth seeing.

Jade handicraft

 

More than 900 items will be presented at this section. A rich mixture will be offered, including jade articles, study objects, wood ware and bronzes. One of the must-sees is a carved white jade “l(fā)ions” censer of the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912). With its high quality, the item is highly valued.

Another must-see is “a copper figure of Buddha” from the 15-16th century. The sculpture is small yet anciently unadorned, with a serious yet kind face. Delicate decorations of silver and bronze are attached around his brows, eyes and lips.
