The popular and well-prepared China Guardian 2014 spring auctions fell under the hammer on May 20, 2014, bringing in 2.22 billion yuan from a four-day auction.

"China Guardian 2014 Spring Auctions ended with a total of 2.22 billion yuan. Thanks for the enthusiasm and support of collectors from all circles,” said Hu Yanyan, Director, President and CEO of China Guardian. Next will be the China Guardian 2014 Spring Stamps and Coins Auction, with a preview held from May 21 - 23, and auction running from May 24 - 25, 2014.

100 percent sold by lots in four sessions

At the sales, the marvelous collections, reliable sources and reasonable prices won collector trust, achieving a 100 percent turnover rate from the four sessions, including Important Private Collections (Ⅱ)－Xinle Studio Collection, Grand View: Chinese Painting Highlight— Tongbo Studio Collection, Grand View: Chinese Painting Highlight— Tongbo Studio Collection and Fine and Rare Wines of the World.

This year, China Guardian remains committed to innovation in enriching lot varieties and organizing forms.

For the first time in the history of the spring auctions, China Guardian launched an ancient Chinese papers sales division - Chinese Art Papers from Jin Su Xuan Collection. All the 80 pieces were 96 percent sold by lots because of their reliable qualities and profound cultural accumulation.

Important Private Collections (Ⅳ)－Shadows of Mountain Huang session offered 40 works from Hong Ren, an artist from the Xin’an school, and artists following his style in Ming and Qing dynasties, totally bringing in over 100 million yuan.

Sublime and Divine-Chinese Ming Furniture from the Grace Wu Bruce Collection brought together the Ming-style furniture collected by Wu Bruce, with a total of 86 percent of items sold, bringing in 120 million yuan.

Grand View series continues to flourishing

With several years of development, the Grand View series has covered a wide range of key Chinese calligraphy and painting works from ancient times until now, and formed a strong brand within the Chinese art market. The section brought in 750 million yuan this spring, a chin growth of 31.5 percent over last year’s autumn auctions.

Apart from Tongbo Studio Collection session with 100 percent of the pieces sold by lots, Universe by Qi Baishi also brought in 193.2 million yuan with 93 percent sold by lots, which gathered 28 pieces of Qi Baishi’s works and was launched to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Qi Baishi. Among which, Nature and Figure was sold for 41.975 million yuan, which he made at the age of 85 and once was collected by Lao She. And Red Crane was sold for 36.8 million yuan.

40 modern calligraphy and painting works brought together by Grand View session realized a total of 392 million yuan with 85 percent sold by lots. These works are with high academic and artistic value and highly recognized by the art market.

13 ancient paintings and six pieces of calligraphy works were selected, of which Landscapes After Classical Masters by Wang Jian was sold for 27.025 million yuan and Dwelling With Bammboo by Wang Hui for 16.675 million yuan.

At the China Guardian 2014 spring auctions, the price records of four artists’ works were broken, including Hong Ren’s Dwelling with Elegance, sold for 53.475 million yuan, Huang Binhong’s View of South Peak, realized 62.675 million yuan, Chen Shaomei’s Elegant Gathering in West Garden, brought in 21.275 million yuan and Pan Dehai’s Opened Corn: Back Hill Series No.1 ( Triptych), went for 9.2 million yuan.
